About Me
Hi, I'm Paul, I live in Sheffield, and I love the outdoors, the peak district and nature has been my escape to unwind, clear my head and enjoy creation.
I enjoy making things, and finding little life hacks to make day to day things a bit easier - as life is tough enough, juggling work, family and fun. The Trainer Drainer is exactly that - something that makes life a little easier. It helps to make a habit out of caring for your shoes, and caring for those you live with (who might not want muddy stinky shoes in the house)
My day job is focussed on how we collaborate to create a culture of welcome for refugees and opening up volunteering and employment opportunities for people facing multiple barriers to involvement.
Outside of work, I've volunteered to challenge the policy of asylum destitution in a practical way with other people in Sheffield This has been a passion and a privilege over the last 20+ years, and I still love doing that as a day job.
The Trainer Drainer is one of those things. It's something that just works, and turns a chore into an easy habit to get into. It has such a high reward for the low effort you put in that once you start using it, you'll never want to be without them.
The Trainer Drainer came about because I got in to fell running by accident. As I approached 40, it was the motivator I needed to start running and I decided to do the couch to 5K
After completing it, a friend invited me out for what he promised was "a social chat in the peaks". While they chatted away socially, I was struggling to breath as we ran 10k around Burbage in an hour!!
It nearly killed me, but I loved it and have never looked back.
But - if I wanted to keep going, I realised I needed a good system for cleaning my shoes so I wasn't creating a mess or stink for the rest of the family.
And that's where the Trainer Drainer came from.
Version 1 - which I still love, was knocked up from scrap wood and milk bottles taken out of the recycling bin. It wasn't pretty, but it worked. I'm a bit more of a function over style person.
I'm still a fan of this - but it was never destined for the public.
But all that has changed this year as I've embarked on a new project to bring this little life hack to market.
I've been enjoying researching, learning about product development, experimenting with about 100 different design variations that failed or weren't quite right, until I finally came up with the version I'm selling now.
I think it's finally the design that manages both function and form, looks great, and does exactly what you need it to do.
Check out the video, and try one out - you won't regret it.
